If you have connected to a WiFi network and then forgot the password for some reason, then you can easily find out what the WiFi password was in few easy steps.

People sometimes use complicated passwords with numbers, alphabets, special characters and is pretty long. It’s a good thing… Makes it very difficult to crack the password when it has a complex combination. But the thing is that, long complicated passwords can be forgotten easily.

  • iL0v3InterNet

How To Find WiFi Password On Windows 10

If you are on a Windows 10 PC, you can find your WiFi password in two methods. One is the direct and easy method were you can get the password of the WiFi network that you are currently connected to. In the more advanced method, you will be able to retrieve the password of all the saved WiFi networks.

Find WiFi Password On Windows 10 from Control Panel

This is the easy method which I have told about. This method is for the noobs. Here is How it’s done.

Step 1: Go to Control Panel on your Windows computer.

Step 2: Click on Network and Internet.

Step 3: Next go to Network and Sharing Center.

Step 4: Click on Adapter Settings from the left pane.

Step 5: This will show you the network adapter on your computer.   Right Click on your WiFi adapter and select Status.

Step 7: This will bring a window where you can see WiFi Status. Click on Wireless Properties

Step 8: From the new window, click on the Security tab and check the Show characters checkbox.

Now you will be able to see the WiFi password of your current network.

Find WiFi Password On Windows 10 using Command Prompt

Now we are going to see how pros find their WiFi passwords using Command Prompt. In this method you can not only get the password of the current network, but also the networks you have connected to in the past.

Step 1: Open Command Prompt by Clicking Win + X or Click Win + R and enter cmd.

Step 2: Enter the below line in CMD. Copy it and right click while in cmd to paste it. Hit Enter. You will be able to see the list of saved WiFi networks.

netsh wlan show profile

Step 3: Now to get the WiFi password of the particular network, enter the following line of code. Make sure you replace the <wifi name> with yours. Hit Enter. You will able to see a lot of info regarding the WiFi access point. Scroll to the Security Settings section. You will find Key Content. The value corresponding to key content is the WiFi password of that particular access point.

netsh wlan show profile name=<wifi name> key=clear

Done. You have successfully retrieved the WiFi password of your Access point.

How to find WiFi password on Android Phone

Now let us see how we can find saves WiFi passwords on Android Phone. This method needs root permission, which means that you should have a rooted device. This is because we need to access a system folder which otherwise is not accessible.

Here is how you can get the WiFi password on your phone:

Step 1: We are going to use ES File Explorer which is a great file manager which allows supports Root mode. If you don’t already have it installed, you can just download it here.

Step 2: Open ES File Explorer, navigate to the Root(/) folder. You will be able to see a folder called Data. Open the folder, then go to misc >> wifi folder.

Step 3: You will be able to see a file named wpa_supplicant.conf. Open the file in ES File Explorer’s built in Note Editor. You will able to see the saved passwords of all the WiFi networks that was connected to in the past.

You will be able to see the Saved WiFI names and their passwords or Pre-Shared Key(psk).

Final Thoughts

Its very easy to forget your password especially when the password is very complicated. But you can easily see the WiFi password of the current network as well as all the previous saved networks in Windows computer or in Android pretty easily.
